“Seven-year-old Patlu from Nepal loves watching funny videos and making the people around him laugh.
But when he was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, life changed suddenly for Patlu and his family.
A childhood cancer diagnosis brings fear and uncertainty, as well as immediate practical concerns. How will the family afford regular journeys to hospital? How can parents continue working while caring for their child?
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, families like Patlu’s do not have to navigate these challenges alone.
At Patan Children’s Hospital, World Child Cancer provided Patlu’s family with financial assistance to help ease some of the pressures caused by frequent hospital visits and ongoing check-ups. This support helped his mother, Binita, remain by his side and focus on making sure he could continue receiving the care he needed.
But financial help is only one part of the care families need.
Family Support Officers like Richa Shakya offer compassionate, tailored support throughout treatment. They listen to parents’ concerns, provide reassurance during uncertain moments and help children like Patlu feel safer and more comfortable in hospital.
Through our collaboration with Amgen (Sean Lybrand, Philip Anderson), World Child Cancer has been able to introduce Family Support Officers like Richa into our program in Nepal, ensuring that children and their families receive emotional and practical support alongside medical care.
Together, this support helps families feel less alone, less overwhelmed and better able to face the journey ahead.”
