World Child Cancer shared on LinkedIn:
“‘Look, I don’t have hair either. After the treatment is over, our hair will grow back just like before.’
When 13-year-old Pooh became upset as her hair began to fall out during treatment, her friend Akshu knew exactly what to say.
The two girls met while receiving cancer treatment at Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital in Nepal.
With support from Family Support Officer Amisha Dhimal, they began spending time together through drawing, games and conversation, and soon formed a close friendship.
Through our collaboration with Amgen (Sean Lybrand, Philip Anderson), World Child Cancer has been able to bring Family Support Officers like Amisha into our programme in Nepal, helping children and families feel supported alongside their medical care.
This International Friendship Day, read Akshu and Pooh’s story and discover how an unexpected friendship has made their time in hospital feel less lonely.”
