How Hospital Classrooms Are Rebuilding Childhoods in Malawi – World Child Cancer

“Hospital classrooms are doing far more than teaching lessons, they’re rebuilding childhoods.

At Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Malawi, Hospital School teacher Alinafe Kuntola sees every day how education becomes a lifeline for children undergoing cancer treatment.

Hospital-based education means children don’t miss out. They can take part in familiar routines, learn alongside peers, and maintain a sense of normality during long and difficult treatments.

This support goes beyond academics:

  • It restores a sense of belonging
  • It helps children socialise and build confidence
  • It provides vital distraction from pain and homesickness
  • It can support better treatment cooperation and outcomes

£200 could provide learning materials for a hospital school classroom in Malawi for one month.

Help children facing cancer stay connected to their education, and their future.
