World Child Cancer shared a post on LinkedIn:
“February was a powerful month for childhood cancer advocacy in Ghana!
To mark International Childhood Cancer Day, the World Child Cancer Ghana team mobilized communities, clinicians, partners and media organizations nationwide to raise awareness and strengthen support for children facing cancer.
The impact:
- 2,800+ people reached directly through community outreach and engagement.
- National media coverage across 14 TV, radio and publication platforms, including GHOne TV, Rainbow Radio, UTV Ghana, TV3 Ghana and Wesleyan Television.
- 1,000 soft toys donated by Lions Clubs International, supporting psychosocial care for children undergoing treatment.
Beyond media engagement, the team focused on direct community connection across Accra:
- A four-hour street outreach on Oxford Street, Osu, sharing information on early warning signs and encouraging families to seek timely medical care.
- A childhood cancer awareness walk, organized with Lions International, raising visibility and demonstrating solidarity with children and families affected by cancer.
- A community awareness session at Mount Olivet Methodist Church in Dansoman, encouraging volunteer involvement and community support.
Together, these activities strengthened collaboration with healthcare professionals, media partners and community leaders, helping build more compassionate, responsive systems of care for children with cancer in Ghana.
Because improving childhood cancer outcomes means ensuring every child and family receives care that supports the whole person, not just the disease.”
