Strengthening Pediatric Cancer Care in Nepal with BPKMCH – World Child Cancer

World Child Cancer shared a post on LinkedIn:

“We were delighted to meet with Dr Krishna sagar Sharma, Head of the Pediatric Oncology Department at B.P. Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital (BPKMCH) in Bharatpur, one of our key partners in expanding the shared care network in Nepal.

As the country’s main cancer institute and one of four primary hospitals in the network, BPKMCH plays a crucial role in reaching more children with cancer, especially as the only primary hospital outside the Kathmandu Valley. This decentralised approach means that more families can access life-saving care closer to home.

This year alone, BPKMCH, a World Child Cancer supported hospital, has diagnosed over 250 children with cancer.

We’re deeply grateful to the many like-minded organisations supporting children with cancer in Nepal, including the Leonardo Edward Shrestha Foundation, which provides accommodation for children and families during treatment.

Our discussions with the team focused on how we can keep improving services and support for children and their families, a shared effort built on practical solutions and a deep commitment to better care across Nepal.

Stay tuned for our next update as our team visits the shared care centre in Pokhara to see how this approach is making a difference on the ground.”
