“When hospitals, policymakers, and partners unite for children with cancer.
World Child Cancer joined partners from across Nepal for the ‘Workshop on Strengthening the Shared Care Network and Referral Mechanism‘, a milestone event that brought together 10 hospitals, government representatives, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and other key stakeholders.
The Shared Care Network model connects primary paediatric oncology centres, such as Kanti Children’s Hospital, Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital, Patan Academy of Health Sciences, and B.P. Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital, with provincial hospitals across Nepal. This collaborative approach ensures that diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care for children with cancer can happen closer to home, reducing treatment abandonment, improving survival, and supporting families through every step.
Together, participants mapped referral pathways, aligned protocols, and shared best practices to strengthen Nepal’s growing paediatric oncology network.
This initiative was made possible through the Foundation ‘My Child Matters‘ programme (Isabelle Villadary), with invaluable support from the Ministry of Health and Population of Nepal, WHO Nepal, UNICEF Nepal, Ramesh Gupta Memorial Trust, and Together Against Childhood Cancer.
Every partnership brings us closer to equitable access to cancer care for every child, everywhere.”
