“I’m honored to serve as the Director of the Center for Cancer and Aging at City of Hope.
On August 20-21, 2026, we hosted the Cancer and Aging Summit bringing together researchers, clinicians and community partners to celebrate 20 years of cancer, aging, and longevity scholarship while exploring emerging opportunities to improve clinical care for older adults with cancer.
We also celebrated the Cancer and Aging Research Group (CARG), which also started here 20 years ago.
I’m grateful to my partners in the Center who bring their passion to the table every day: Vani Katheria, Canlan Sun, Kathleen Van Dyk, Andrew Artz, Mark LaBarge, and Tanyanika Phillips.
Special thanks to City of Hope leadership. Robert Stone, our CEO, has been a staunch supporter from the beginning, and gave an amazing opening address. Marcel van den Brink, our President, endorsed our approach to geroscience going forward.
The special sauce for the Center has been our Philanthropy partners, led by Kristin Bertell and Sharon Joyce, who have fueled our development into the leaders in field.
We were able to celebrate Mr. George Tsai and his family, whose $5 million gift is accelerating and scaling our scholarly work into practical solutions for the future.
