“I am often asked about competition between companies, or increasingly, competition between countries in science and innovation.
My answer has always been simple. Nearly 10 million people die from cancer every year.
Against that backdrop, debates about whether a scientific breakthrough originated in a biotech, a pharmaceutical company, a university lab, or a particular region of the world seem far less important.
The true measure of success is not who wins the race to discover. It is how many patients ultimately benefit from the discovery.
As AI continues to transform biomedical research and accelerate innovation, our collective challenge is to ensure that science moves faster, collaboration becomes stronger, and lifesaving treatments reach patients sooner.
The enemy is not another company or another country. The enemy is cancer.”
