Quoting AIO‘s post on LinkedIn:

“AIO Science Award 2025 – clinical part.

We are thrilled and congratulate from the bottom of our hearts Florian Lordick, MD, FESMO, University of Leipzig Medical Center.

He was honored today at the AIO Herbstkongress for his work ‘Adjuvant immunotherapy in patients with resected gastric and oesophagogastric junction cancer following preoperative chemotherapy with high risk for recurrence (ypND and/or R1): European Organisation of Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) 1707 VESTIGE study’, published in Annals of Oncology 2025.

Despite negative results, the submitted thesis convinces with its high scientific impact. For the first time, it refutes the benefit of adjuvant immune checkpoint inhibitor combination therapy in tumors of the gastroesophageal junction with non-R0 resection or lymph node involvement (N+). Overall, the study represents an exemplary model for clinically relevant negative research that has a lasting impact on the therapeutic standard – says the jury.

Congratulations!.”
