“Today, we recognize Peter Pisters‘ exceptional leadership as president of UT MD Anderson, following his announcement that he plans to retire from the institution.
The University of Texas System Board of Regents and Chancellor John Zerwas, have named Jeffrey E. Lee interim president.
Since returning to UT MD Anderson in 2017 to serve as president, Pisters has championed the development and disciplined execution of our strategic plan.
Under his leadership:
- UT MD Anderson set in place a $10 billion capital expansion plan that’s now underway,
- Achieved the strongest financial performance in its 85-year history
- Launched a $2.5 billion comprehensive philanthropic campaign that has already raised $2.16 billion.
Through a steadfast focus on patient safety, elevating the patient experience, and investing in employee wellness, he also has cultivated a high-performing culture that develops leaders, empowers employees and delivers exceptional outcomes.
Lee, a surgical oncologist who has been at UT MD Anderson for 35 years, currently serves as the institution’s executive vice president, chief physician executive and chief cancer network officer and is a member of UT MD Anderson’s Executive Leadership Team.
‘Dr. Lee’s close working relationship with Dr. Pisters and the entire executive leadership team gives him the advantage of being immersed in every leadership action, with excellent decision-making skills and a collaborative style’ – Zerwas says.
