“UNIST has secured five projects through the 2026 Basic Research Laboratory (BRL) initiative, bringing together interdisciplinary teams across cancer biology, regenerative medicine, quantum materials, and genome science.
Sung-Min Hwang, Assistant Professor Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, shared a post by Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, adding:
“I am pleased to share that our team has been selected for the 2026 Basic Research Laboratory (BRL) Program, where I will serve as a Co-Principal Investigator with Dr. Byung Heon Kang.
Our three-year project, ‘Mitochondrial Reprogramming in the Tumor Microenvironment Driving Tumor Malignancy,’will investigate how mitochondrial stress and metabolic adaptation shape tumor progression, immune dysfunction, and therapeutic resistance.
My laboratory will focus on how these processes regulate T cell fitness, exhaustion, and persistence, with the goal of identifying metabolic vulnerabilities that may improve cancer immunotherapy.
I look forward to advancing this interdisciplinary collaboration.”
