“Last week I had the privilege of spending a few days in Nicholas Navin’s lab at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. The visit focused on discussion around Ductal Carcinoma in Situ (DCIS) breast cancer and how spatial biology is helping us understand its progression to invasive disease.
I had the opportunity to spend time in the lab observing how samples are prepared for spatial analysis and processed, through to how the resulting data is analysed computationally in the dry lab. Seeing this end-to-end gave me a much deeper, practical understanding of the techniques, which I can now bring back and apply in my own work at Guy’s Cancer Centre. It was also a valuable opportunity to discuss the current questions in DCIS biology and begin exploring future research collaborations together.
I am grateful to the whole lab for being so welcoming and taking the time to share their expertise and knowledge with me this past week, and I look forward to the future.”
