St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Suzanne Gronemeyer has dedicated more than 28 years to advancing education and training in pediatric oncology through her leadership of the Pediatric Oncology Education (POE) Program at St. Jude. Under her direction, the program transformed from a small, paper-based operation into a nationally recognized initiative known for its talented cohorts and excellence in hands-on research training.
Central to the POE Program is its emphasis on mentorship and collaboration. Gronemeyer reflects,
“Every student brings unique strengths and curiosity to their work, and my role as a mentor is to help them discover how much they’re capable of.”
Initiatives such as the “lunch and learn” series exemplify the collaborative spirit at St. Jude where faculty, postdocs and researchers contribute to a culture of shared knowledge and support.
The Program’s growth has been significant with nearly 1,600 student participants over the years. Many alumni have become physicians, scientists and leaders, some returning to St. Jude to mentor the next generation.
“Seeing former students become mentors and leaders themselves is deeply rewarding, and it highlights the lasting impact of the POE program on both individuals and the broader St. Jude community,” said Gronemeyer.
The POE program’s success reflects the broader commitment at St. Jude to nurturing talent and fostering discovery at every career stage. As new leaders step forward, Gronemeyer’s legacy continues to inspire a culture where education and training are integral to advancing pediatric oncology research.
