Susanna Fletcher Greer, Chief Scientific Officer at the V Foundation, shared the V Foundation’s post on LinkedIn, adding:
“During Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, I’m especially proud to share this news: the V Foundation is investing $16.2 million in 18 extraordinary scientists who are working to change what’s possible for children with cancer.
‘Pediatric cancers are not simply smaller versions of adult cancers.
They are biologically distinct diseases, and children deserve treatments designed specifically for them.’
What excites me about this extraordinary group of researchers is the breadth of the science the V is funding; from leukemia and brain tumors, to sarcomas, immunotherapy and new approaches that could ultimately reach children across many different cancers.
And we are investing across the scientific continuum, from brilliant early-career investigators to established scientists ready to move discoveries closer to patients.
We have made remarkable progress in childhood cancer. But too many children still depend on treatments developed decades ago, and survival alone is not enough.
‘Our goal has to be helping more children survive cancer and ensuring they can live long, healthy lives afterward.’
I’m incredibly grateful to these scientists, to our Scientific Advisory Committee, and to Dick Vitale and everyone who continues to believe in our mission: that research gives children and families more time, more options and more hope.

“We are thrilled to announce that we have awarded $16.2 million dollars to 18 exceptional scientists through our Dick Vitale Pediatric Cancer Research Fund.
Cancer remains the leading disease related cause of death among children and adolescents.
Despite this, pediatric cancer research remains dramatically underfunded. The V Foundation is helping to fill this critical gap.
