Whether a patient is female or male, surgical oncology discharge requires the same rigorous baseline of care.
Yet across the board, post-mastectomy drain management is routinely left to improvisational safety pins and makeshift tape.
Male breast cancer patients face unique psychological and physical recovery hurdles, often with limited tailored resources. Handing any post-op patient a safety pin at discharge adds unnecessary physical friction, line traction risk, and emotional stress to an already overwhelming recovery.
Clinical excellence inside the OR must match clinical safety at home. It is time to replace outdated workarounds with a standardized, pinless baseline of care for every surgical oncology patient.
