“If I have a patient whose cancer is likely to be cured, I tell them so upfront.
I use the word ‘cure‘ when I’m talking to them because it’s true. I tell my patients when a cure is achievable because I want them to have that understanding.
‘Cure‘ means we have a treatment that will completely eliminate their cancer, without it coming back again.
We are already curing a lot of cancers today – prostate, breast, colon, head and neck, gynecologic cancers, and even lung cancer.
But here’s the key to curing cancer: early diagnosis.
If we’re able to catch cancer in an early stage before it spreads, then we’re able to cure a lot of patients.”
