Olubukola Ayodele: LGCW 2026 – Turning Conversations Into Meaningful Action

Olubukola Ayodele, Co-Convenor (Co-Chair) of London Global Cancer Week, shared on LinkedIn:

“What a way to conclude London Global Cancer Week 2026!

Yesterday, we gathered at King’s College London for our flagship Friday event, bringing together an exceptional group of clinicians, researchers, policymakers, global health leaders, patient advocates and community organisations.

Our theme was Global Partnerships for Equitable Cancer Care: Moving From Local Insight to Worldwide Impact.

Over the past three years, our Friday meetings have evolved from understanding the cancer inequalities conundrum in 2024, to moving from awareness to action in 2025, and now exploring how global partnerships can help us achieve more together.

We heard different perspectives on international collaborations, equitable research partnerships, community-anchored cancer literacy, health systems strengthening and the policies needed to improve cancer outcomes.

There were thoughtful discussions, challenging questions, practical examples and, importantly, opportunities for new connections.

To our speakers, moderators and facilitators: Thank you!

You gave freely of your time, knowledge and expertise, without honoraria. Many travelled considerable distances and made room in already demanding schedules to be with us.

Your willingness to contribute reflects a shared commitment to improving cancer care beyond institutional and geographical boundaries. I am deeply grateful.

To our sponsors and supporters: Thank you for believing in our vision and providing the support needed to make this gathering possible.

To the LGCW administrative team, steering committee and volunteers: So much work happens behind the scenes. Thank you for your dedication, patience and commitment.

A special thank you to my fellow Co-Convenor, Dr Susie Stanway, for the trust, encouragement and partnership over these past three years. What a journey!

To everyone who attended, participated in the discussions, asked questions and made new connections, thank you for being part of it.

One thing I have learnt from organising these meetings is that the value of bringing people together is not always measured by what happens on the stage, it is the conversation that takes place over coffee, during lunch or between sessions.

We have come a long way, but there is still so much to do. My hope is that we do not leave the conversations in the hall, but follow up on the connections, explore the opportunities and turn the ideas into meaningful action.

Ultimately, the success of LGCW will not be measured by how many people attended, but by what we achieve together afterwards.

Thank you to everyone who hosted and participated in events during the week. We had over 50 different events spanning different conversations but with one goal of closing the cancer care gap and making cancer care equitable for all.

Looking forward to greater achievements in 2027.”
