Nirmala Bhoo Pathy: Year-End Reflections on Advancing Health Systems in LMICs

Nirmala Bhoo Pathy, Professor at the University of Malaya and Adjunct Professor at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“As the year draws to a close, and I’m packing to head home, I’ve been sitting with a simple question:
Am I leaving useful thinking undocumented?

Many of us are taught that humility means staying quiet, waiting until our ideas are ‘fully formed,’ or speaking only when invited. But I’ve learned that thoughtful reflection, shared generously, is not the opposite of humility.

Some of the most important insights in health, policy and care are formed quietly through practice, reflection and lived experience. If we don’t give these ideas language, they risk being lost, or never reaching those who could learn from them.

Sharing thoughtful reflections is not self-promotion. It is part of learning in public, and part of contributing to a collective conversation.

If you are early in your journey and wondering whether your ideas are ‘ready,’ write anyway!

Thinking often becomes clearer when it is shared. For people working in LMIC systems especially, posting our thoughts and ideas matters. To document, to reflect and to make visible the kinds of system questions that don’t always fit neatly into papers.”
