“A retrospective review in JCO Oncology Practice analyzed the cost impact of second opinions in oncology.
Findings? Subspecialist second opinions in oncology most often resulted in a de-escalation of care intensity.
Meaning? Safer, less aggressive treatment (like avoiding major surgery or shifting drug regimens) while aiming for the same outcomes. The fiscal outcome? Lower overall spending, with an average savings of $15,015 across the patient cohort.
We need more of this sort of research!”
