Michael McNeil: Nickhill Bhakta’s Global Impact on Childhood Cancer Care

Michael McNeil, Director of the St. Jude Global Palliative Care Program, shared on LinkedIn:

“Less than 8 weeks to go! This week as I train for the St. Jude Half Marathon, I am highlighting another of my colleagues I work with at St. Jude Global.

Nickhill Bhakta is a pediatric oncologist and director of the Disease Burden and Simulation Program as well as Chair of the Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Advisory Committee. Nickhill is one of those rare leaders that has grand and ambitious ideas but also has the wherewithal to bring those pie in the sky ideas to fruition. Nickhill interviewed me almost 10 years ago and leaving that interview, my first thought is ‘man I would love to work with this guy.’

From creating a global cancer registry for childhood cancer, to developing a resource-adapted childhood cancer treatment guidance as a clinical decision-aid tool, to leading a global molecular diagnostic platform for childhood cancer, Nickhill and team are leading initiatives across the continuum of care for children with cancer in resource-variable settings globally. I am confident in St. Jude Global’s ability to achieve our ambitious goals because of people like Nickhill.

If able, please consider donating to my fundraiser for the St. Jude Half Marathon so that Dr. Bhakta and other amazing researchers can continue their incredible clinical work and research.”
