Neli Ulrich: Great Reminder That Innovation Happens When People Connect

Neli Ulrich, Chief Scientific Officer and Executive Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Huntsman Cancer Institute, shared on LinkedIn:

“What do AI, cancer research, snowboarding, Amazon jungle adventures, and pet chickens have in common?

They all came up at our recent Huntsman Cancer Institute faculty lunch!

These gatherings are designed to foster connections across disciplines, and this one did exactly that. We spent the afternoon learning more about the people behind the science, from their research passions and career journeys to hidden talents and unexpected adventures.

We discovered avid snowboarders and climbers, faculty who have lived and worked around the world, an adventurer who traveled through the Amazon jungle (with a few monkey encounters!), talented pianists and singers, and even a proud pet chicken owner.

Alongside conversations about cancer research, AI, clinical trials, and team science, we explored new opportunities to work together and build relationships across our growing community. A great reminder that innovation happens when people connect and that some of the most meaningful collaborations start with a simple conversation.

Thank you to everyone who attended, shared their stories, and helped strengthen our community. Looking forward to seeing the ideas that grow from these connections!”
