Nazik Hammad and Chinenye Iwuji Lead Inspiring AORTIC Medical Oncology Session in Tunisia

Nazik Hammad, Medical Oncologist and Professor at St. Michael’s Hospital, University of Toronto, shared a post by Chinenye Iwuji on LinkedIn, adding:

”The AORTIC medical oncology SIG delivered a powerful session in Tunisia. Dr. Chinenye Iwuji my co-moderator in the session will now assume the leadership of AORTIC med onc SIG. I applaud previous chair Dr Haimanot Kasahun who has championed the ongoing project of the Atlas of skin toxicities of systemic therapy in Africa.

Looking forward to continuing efforts to build a stronger and vibrant medical oncology community on the continent.”

Quoting Chinenye Iwuji‘s post:

”I am honored to have moderated a powerful session at the AORTIC- Africa Conference in Hammamet, Tunisia!

As a Moderator for the Medical Oncology (SIG) session, it was my privilege to guide a discussion featuring experts from Ethiopia, Canada, USA, Ghana, and Tunisia. I was delighted to share this role with my amazing co-moderator, Prof. Nazik Hammad.

This truly global panel provided critical insights on:

  • The Atlas of Dermatologic Toxicities of Systemic Therapy in Africa
  •  Insights on Exercise and Colon Cancer Recurrence
  •  The importance of Supportive Care during systemic therapy
  •  Guidelines Concordance in systemic therapy
  •  BRCA1/BRCA2 germline mutations in patients with breast/ovarian cancer: Insights from Sfax.

My major takeaway came from Dr Christopher Booth , who presented the results of the CHALLENGE Trial.

This study showed that structured exercise can significantly reduce the risk of disease recurrence and death in patients with colorectal cancer after surgery and chemotherapy.

I often see patients in my clinic asking how to adjust their diet to support their treatment, but few consider the impact of exercise.

This study provides powerful evidence that exercise is actually a key ingredient to significantly improve treatment outcomes.

A huge shout-out to Prof. Nazik Hammad, Facilitator Dr. Haimanot Kasahun, and all the brilliant speakers.

It was a rich and vital exchange of knowledge!”
