What a Year it Has Been for Lung Cancer Research at NCCS – National Cancer Centre Singapore

National Cancer Centre Singapore shared a post on LinkedIn:

What a year it has been for lung cancer research at NCCS!

Prof Daniel SW Tan clinched the NMRC Clinician Scientist Award – Senior Investigator for his efforts to uncover mechanisms of drug resistance in lung cancer and discover new ways to stop them.

Asst Prof Stephanie Saw and Asst Prof Aaron Tan received the NMRC Transition Award. Asst Prof Saw conducts research to improve recurrence risk prediction and enhance clinical decision-making, while Asst Prof Tan focuses on identifying new therapeutic targets for a subset of lung cancer patients who respond poorly to first-line treatment.

SOLSTICE (Singapore Lung Cancer Screening Through Integrating CT with Other Biomarkers), Singapore’s first lung cancer screening study, has detected lung cancer in 9 out of 530 non-smoker participants so far. These findings will provide greater insight into how cancer develops and how screening can be implemented more effectively in Singapore.

CLARION (Conquering Lung Cancer Across All Stages with Research and Innovation) was awarded a $25 million boost through the NMRC Open Fund – Large Collaborative Grant (OF-LCG). Led by Prof Daniel Tan and in partnership with A*STAR – Agency for Science, Technology and Research, NCIS NUHS, Singapore General Hospital, and Tan Tock Seng Hospital, the initiative aims to transform how Asian-prevalent lung cancer subtypes are understood and treated.

NCCS published 44 research papers on lung cancer in top-tier publications over the past year. This includes a New England Journal of Medicine study revealing promising results for a new therapy targeting HER2-mutated lung cancer

These achievements are a testament to the hard work, research excellence, and dedication of NCCS clinician-scientists, researchers, and their collaborators. Here’s to another year of leading breakthroughs in lung cancer research together!”
