These are assumptions that still shape cancer care today.
Many people diagnosed with cancer don’t fit traditional expectations of age, family history, or risk. Yet those assumptions can still influence who gets screened, who gets tested, and whose concerns are taken seriously.
As AI becomes increasingly integrated into healthcare, we have an opportunity to rethink how we identify risk, recognize pSXSWatterns, and design systems that serve everyone. But AI alone doesn’t eliminate bias. If we’re not intentional, it can also reinforce the blind spots already present in our guidelines, datasets, workflows, and care pathways.
That’s why I proposed an SXSW panel, Too Young, Too Healthy: Cancer Care Bias in the AI Era.
This conversation isn’t just about technology. It’s about asking better questions, recognizing who we’re still missing, and building systems that help more people be heard, evaluated, and supported sooner.
