Michail Ignatiadis Explores Whether PD-(L)1×VEGF Could Become the Next Immunotherapy Backbone

Michail Ignatiadis, Director, Breast Medical Oncology Clinic and Program at Institut Jules Bordet, shared on LinkedIn:

“Could PD-(L)1×VEGF bispecific antibodies become the next immunotherapy backbone across solid tumors?

The race has begun: ivonescimab (Akeso/Summit; now in strategic collaboration with AstraZeneca), pumitamig (BioNTech/BMS), tivunatamig (Pfizer/3SBio), ABBV-1480 (AbbVie/RemeGen) and MK-2010 (Merck/LaNova).

AstraZeneca has now invested $2B in Summit and plans broad combinations of ivonescimab with its oncology portfolio, particularly ADCs, across tumor types.

The strategic question is whether PD-(L)1×VEGF can displace conventional PD-1/PD-L1 blockade as the preferred IO backbone for the next generation of combination therapies.

More competition, more biological innovation – and hopefully better options for our patients.”
