Michael Sapienza Joins Guardant Health’s High Table to Discuss the Future of Cancer Screening

Michael Sapienza, Chief Executive Officer of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, shared on LinkedIn:

“The future of cancer screening and early detection will depend on more than what science makes possible. It will depend on how we work together to make that progress meaningful for patients.

Last week, I joined leaders and advocates at Guardant Health’s headquarters for its High Table program, an opportunity to exchange perspectives on the future of cancer screening and early detection. I was glad to contribute to two panel discussions as part of the day.

Advancing cancer detection requires scientific innovation, but it also requires us to ask difficult questions about how new approaches will reach people, how they will fit into real-world care, and how we can ensure progress benefits the patients who need it.

From a patient advocacy perspective, these conversations are essential. A promising technology is only one part of the equation. We also have to consider access, awareness, the patient experience, and the evidence needed to understand how new approaches can improve outcomes.

At the Colorectal Cancer Allianceer , we believe progress happens when researchers, healthcare professionals, industry leaders, and the patient community work toward shared goals while bringing different perspectives to the table.

Thank you, Guardant, for creating space for these discussions and for bringing together people working to shape the future of cancer screening.

The opportunity ahead is to turn what we learn into better outcomes for patients.”

About Guardant Health

What if detecting cancer could begin with a simple blood test?

This question is at the heart of Guardant Health’s mission to transform cancer care through precision oncology and innovative diagnostic technologies.

Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Palo Alto, California, Guardant Health is a biotechnology company working to change how cancer is detected, monitored, and treated. Its approach centers on liquid biopsy, a technology that can identify cancer-related biomarkers in blood samples, offering valuable insights without always requiring an invasive tissue biopsy.

One of the company’s notable developments is Shield, an FDA-approved blood test for colorectal cancer screening in average-risk adults aged 45 and older. By offering a blood-based screening option, Shield represents an important step toward addressing barriers that can prevent people from participating in recommended cancer screening.

Beyond early detection, Guardant Health has developed technologies such as Guardant360, which supports personalized treatment decisions through genomic profiling, and Guardant Reveal, which helps detect molecular residual disease and assess cancer recurrence risk.

Through scientific innovation, clinical research, and collaboration with healthcare professionals and patient advocates, Guardant Health is working toward a future in which cancer can be detected earlier, treatment decisions can be more personalized, and advances in precision oncology can reach more patients.
