Michael McNeil: Visiting Uzbekistan With Members of the St Jude Global Team

Michael McNeil, Director of St. Jude Global Palliative Care Program at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Last week I had the chance to visit Uzbekistan with members of the St Jude Global team.

It was incredible the progress that has been made in improving care for children with cancer.

The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan signed a formal MOU with St Jude Global to improve care for all children with cancer and become global leaders in ensuring every child, everywhere receives the care they deserve.

I was especially impressed by the work in building pediatric palliative care and ensuring that every child has access to quality care to improve survival and quality of life. Beautiful country, amazing people, and a powerful spirit of commitment and growth. I can’t wait to go back!

A huge thank you to the entire team in Uzbekistan from the Ministry from the Special Unit for Pediatric Hematology Oncology, the National Agency for social protection under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Agency for Strategic Development and Reforms under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Nariman Akhatov, and Aziza Umarova.

Additionally, I am so grateful for Dr. Jamila, Olga Lyan, Rustam Norbaev and Yahyo Ziyayev for their incredible advocacy for pediatric palliative care, for Anna Sonkin and Taisiya Yakimkova with the St Jude Global Euro team, for our fearless leaders at St Jude Global Bente Mikkelsen, and Carlos Rodriguez-Galindo, and our collaborators with the WHO Regional Office for Europe including Vitaly Smelov and Julie Ling. And so many more behind the scenes making this incredible vision come to life. I can’t wait to see what is to come.”
