Mauro A. Ferreira, Vice President of Sales – Latin America and Caribbean at IBA Proton Therapy, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Brazil Advances the Discussion on Implementing Proton Therapy for Pediatric Oncology.
Brazil, through the School of Medicine at the University of Vassouras (Univassouras) in the State of Rio de Janeiro, is contributing meaningfully to the advancement of discussions on implementing proton therapy for pediatric oncology.
Over the past months, the team led by Professor Gustavo Viani, MD has produced the studies listed below, reinforcing the clear need to adopt this technique in the country.
This topic is not new. Back in 2021, the Brazilian Society of Radiotherapy, through the RT 20-30 Executive Report, had already highlighted the urgency of expanding access to advanced radiotherapy technologies, including proton therapy.
Brazil has the scientific expertise, clinical leadership, and institutional commitment to move this agenda forward, and these recent studies strengthen the case for action.
