Matthijs Van Meerveld: Precision Oncology Implementation Roadmap in Europe Presented at ESMO 2026

Matthijs Van Meerveld, Associate Vice President, Global Head of Patient Advocacy and Policy at Menarini Stemline, shared on LinkedIn:

“Just got back from another successful ESMO! Nothing beats in person exchange and dialogue.

One of the highlights was an e-poster that introduces an evidence-based implementation roadmap and diagnostic toolkit to support national and regional/local healthcare authorities in advancing precision oncology across Europe. It presents common systemic obstacles into 18 recurring challenge archetypes (A–R), maps them to 15 real-world national and regional case studies, and provides 13 policy recommendations (I–XIII) grouped across three core pillars.

Cancer is projected to become Europe’s leading cause of death by 2035, and urgent action is needed to pave the way for precision oncology, addressing barriers around awareness, infrastructure & workforce, and funding & reimbursement.

The poster was presented by Nicola Normanno on behalf of the EFPIA Oncology Platform Working Group on Precision Oncology that I co-chair with Olivia McDermid with key members Agnieszka Krukowska-Van Handenhove and Daniela Morghenti, in collaboration with several experts from the European cancer community, supported by the Incisive Health team under the leadership of Valentina Polylas.”
