“I had a chance at the DAVA Oncology Hematology meeting to share how Johnson and Johnson Innovative Medicine has been working towards turning an incurable disease into potentially curable.
I shared the 5 step framework we have been using to pursue cure. I also had a chance to share a fun analogy challenging the belief that things we perhaps consider the same may indeed be different. As a dual Brit/American I know too well that ‘Boot‘ and ‘Chips‘ while English, have very different meanings across either side of the Atlantic.
The idea that things that indeed might seem the same, but indeed are different, is a key aspect of drug development. It is subtle differences in a molecules design and study design that can make such a difference in outcome, particularly when pursuing something so audacious as ‘cure’.
Deep expertise is key here which is something we have invested in Johnson and Johnson Innovative Medicine.
I also spoke to while approaches and even culture are king in pursing cure, it is also partnership that is central to everything we do. It was so perfect that Sagar Lonial, was chairing the session, as he has been one of those instrumental partners, along with so so many more….
Turning an incurable disease to potentially curable is an audacious goal. But as scientific innovators, partners and members of the medical community together we can overcome perhaps what may have been seen to be inconceivable.
