Maribel Almont: Launch of the WHO Guideline on HPV DNA Genotyping for Cervical Cancer Prevention

Maribel Almonte, Implementation Scientist at World Health Organization, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“We are proud to share the launch of the WHO guideline for screening and treatment of cervical pre-cancer lesions for cervical cancer prevention: Use of human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA genotyping.

With more than 500 participants joining yesterday’s launch, we sincerely thank everyone who attended, as well as our panellists: Silvia de Sanjosé (Spain), Hennie Botha (South Africa), Joakim Dillner (Sweden), Fanghui Zhao (China), Teresa Darragh (USA), Andrea Matos (Peru), and Sara Arroyo (Sweden) for their excellent presentations and insights.

We also extend our deep appreciation to the Guideline Development Group members, contributing experts, partner organizations, and all those who supported the development of these recommendations over the years. Special thanks to our methodologist, Nancy Santesso (Canada), and to colleagues across the WHO Secretariat, regional and country offices, and International Agency for Research on Cancer.

We hope this guideline will help accelerate the implementation of HPV-based cervical cancer screening and support progress toward the WHO 2030 targets: 70% screening coverage and 90% access to treatment and care for women identified with cervical disease.

The guideline and web annexes are now available — please read and share widely.”
