Maria Julia Sanchez, International Student at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“For the past six weeks, I had the opportunity to complete a rotation in the Histocompatibility Typing Laboratory at UT MD Anderson.
As part of my rotation, I researched and developed a presentation on CAR-T Cell Therapy and Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS), an emerging area of laboratory medicine that is becoming increasingly relevant to patient care and laboratory testing. With the guidance and mentorship of Christian Torres-Cotty, I prepared and delivered a short lecture exploring the immunological principles behind CAR-T therapy and the role of cytokine monitoring in managing CRS.
This experience strengthened my understanding of transplant immunology, cellular therapies, and the critical role the HLA laboratory plays in supporting patient care.
I am grateful to the entire HLA team for their mentorship, support, and dedication throughout my rotation. Their commitment to excellence and patient-centered care made this a truly meaningful learning experience.
Thank you for welcoming me into your laboratory and for sharing your knowledge and expertise. I look forward to carrying these lessons with me throughout my career in molecular diagnostics and laboratory medicine.”
