“Today, I’m especially happy to share that our article, ‘Role of Health Digital Twins in Oncology Drug Development: A Primer’ has officially been published in Frontiers in Oncology.
I hope this is just the first of many publications in a series aimed at bridging the gap between oncology and artificial intelligence. As AI continues to evolve at an extraordinary pace, many healthcare professionals are asking the same questions:
- What does this mean for me and how I practice?
- How can I use it responsibly?
- Will it help me help my patients?
My ambition is to try to help answer those questions.
Through a series of practical, accessible articles, I hope to support everyday clinical oncologists in understanding AI concepts, staying up to date with emerging technologies, and learning how these tools can be thoughtfully applied in daily clinical practice. Most importantly, I hope to help clinicians approach AI with confidence, recognising it not as something to fear, but as a valuable tool that can support better decision-making and better patient care.
As we discuss in the article, AI is not here to replace clinicians. Rather, it serves as a tool that can support clinical judgement. When used appropriately, it has the potential to enhance decision-making, improve efficiency, generate new insights, and ultimately help us deliver the best possible care to our patients. The goal is not to replace the expertise of oncologists, but to augment it through data-informed models and technologies that can help us better understand what may happen next and support more informed decisions.
This publication represents many months of collaboration, discussion, learning, and hard work. I would like to sincerely thank all my co-authors and collaborators who contributed their expertise, insights, and commitment throughout this journey. Research is never an individual effort, and this paper is a testament to what can be achieved when passionate people come together around a common goal.
