Lung Ambition Alliance Releases New Consensus Statement to Standardize Patient Navigation

Sunil Verma, SVP, Global Head, Oncology Franchise at AstraZeneca, shared on LinkedIn:

“Equitable access to care is something we constantly strive for.

Our commitment at AstraZeneca is to ensure every patient has the chance to achieve the best possible outcomes, not just on World Lung Cancer Day but every day, and patient navigation is a powerful equalizer.

This new consensus statement highlights how targeted support can help to dismantle systemic barriers, ensuring that where a patient lives or their background doesn’t dictate their access to life-changing lung cancer care. It’s not just about what we develop, but how we ensure the appropriate care reaches everyone who needs it.

Let’s champion this movement towards truly inclusive lung cancer care.”

To which, Shubh Goel, VP, Global Franchise Head, Bispecifics at AstraZeneca, added:

“Thank you, Sunil Verma, for amplifying this critical message on World Lung Cancer Day! Patient navigation is a fundamental pillar for achieving health equity in lung cancer care.

This patient-led consensus statement clearly outlines how we can ensure that access to optimal care is a right, not a privilege determined by geography or socioeconomic status. By standardizing patient navigation, we can actively dismantle barriers and create a more just system for every individual.

This work aligns perfectly with our commitment at AstraZeneca to redefine cancer care. Let’s champion these recommendations and transform this vision into a global reality.”

Gary Doherty, Vice President, Global Clinical Strategy Head for Lung Cancer at AstraZeneca, also shared his perspective on LinkedIn:

“On World Lung Cancer Day, I’m reflecting on the strength of everyone affected by lung cancer and the life-changing impact of a diagnosis.

Over the course of my career, I have seen how important it is for people to feel supported, informed and connected as they move through care, and how much difference it can make when that journey feels more coordinated and less overwhelming. I have also seen the impact of collaboration when healthcare professionals, advocates and organizations work together with a shared commitment to improving treatment and care.

I’m pleased that, through the Lung Ambition Alliance, a new consensus statement developed by members of the lung cancer community has been published, highlighting the importance of patient navigation and collaboration across the system.

Together with Lung Ambition Alliance, AstraZeneca remains committed to advancing collaboration in support of people affected by lung cancer.”
