“My dear friends,
With a sense of responsibility and emotion, I share an update that primarily concerns the work and the collective effort.
The international oncology media OncoDaily has included my work in the list of the 100 Most Influential People in Oncology for 2025.
I do not take it as a personal honor, but as a recognition of a Cypriot model of scientific, social, and humanitarian action, which has developed over time and today has an international scope.
From the creation and systematic development of pediatric oncology services in Cyprus since 1990, which have contributed decisively to improving the survival of children with cancer, to the long-term cooperation with international organizations and networks to enhance the care of children with cancer in countries with limited resources, the common thread remains constant: cooperation, transfer of know-how and support where there is a real need.
This action extends particularly to Sub-Saharan Africa (Senegal, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire) and South Africa, with specific interventions in Botswana and the other fifteen countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), through training programs for health professionals, service support, provision of essential medicines, and development of paediatric palliative care.
In this context, the Cyprus International Action Plan for Children with Cancer (Cy-IAPCC) was implemented in 2023, with the support of the ELPIDA Foundation, in collaboration with the World Health Organization, the Government of Cyprus, and international partners. Already, through this plan, specific humanitarian and educational actions have been implemented with a measurable impact.
I share this recognition because only when the project is visible can synergies be built, supported, and continue with substance.
We continue, modestly and collectively, to turn knowledge and cooperation into better care and more lives of children who are saved.”
