“I am humbled and honored to have been selected as one of the Top 10 Abstract at the London Global Cancer Week – Cancer Health Disparities Event 2025! The event was truly fruitful and inspiring!
It is my pleasure to have been selected for both 2024 and 2025! Wonderful to meet both old and new friends again in London. Last year, I presented the Phase 4 anonymous survey of my PhD project, which showed that fatalistic beliefs about cancer are prevalent among ethnic Chinese communities and highlighted the need for relevant cancer education for public.
This year, I returned to London Global Cancer Week and presented the first two phases of my larger PhD project. These phases used a mixed methods design to explore unmet needs, quality of life and care experiences among ethnic Chinese immigrants affected by cancer in Scotland.
Take home messages included:
- Addressing unmet information and psychological needs and supporting caregivers is critical to improving cancer care for this population.
- Future research should engage stakeholders and co-design interventions to ensure supportive cancer care services are culturally appropriate and accessible.
- The dual challenges of cancer and migration intensify vulnerability and contribute to cancer care inequalities.
I am deeply grateful to my supervisors Grigorios Kotronoulas and Deborah Cairns, for their exceptional guidance and unwavering support throughout this journey. This project would not have been possible without your guidance and support.
My sincere appreciation also goes to Mr Wai Pang Sham, Chief Executive of the Chinese Association for Cancer Care, London. Thank you for your ongoing support, your connections, and for attending my presentation.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr Olubukola Ayodele and all the organizers for delivering such an impactful event. Thank you also to Aruni Ghose and Neil Ranasinghe for moderating the Vanessa Moss Prize session.
See you all next year!!!!!!”
