London Global Cancer Week 2025: Advancing Global Dialogue on Cancer Equity

London Global Cancer Week (LGCW) 2025 will take place from November 24 to 28, continuing its mission to elevate international collaboration in cancer control. As cancer remains a leading cause of death worldwide responsible for nearly one in six deaths and almost 10 million deaths in 2020, the burden falls disproportionately on low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). These regions face higher rates of late diagnosis and more limited access to prevention, diagnostics, treatment, and palliative care. LGCW 2025 aims to confront this global challenge through shared knowledge, innovation, and coordinated action.

The Global Burden of Cancer

Cancer mortality has reached critical levels, with LMICs carrying the heaviest burden due to systemic resource constraints. Late presentation, insufficient screening programs, and gaps in treatment infrastructure continue to widen global survival disparities. As the international oncology community works toward equitable outcomes, LGCW 2025 provides a timely platform to reassess progress and identify areas requiring renewed investment and unified strategies.

Strengthening the Global Cancer Community

Over recent decades, partnerships across professional societies, universities, policymakers, cancer centers, charities, and industry have helped expand training opportunities, mentorship programs, research capacity, and financial support. LGCW 2025 encourages the global oncology community to reflect on these achievements and consider the comprehensive challenge cancer presents worldwide. The event underscores the importance of building sustainable collaborations that translate into meaningful improvements in care.

History and Evolution of LGCW

The origins of London Global Cancer Week date back to 2016, when the Royal Society of Medicine Oncology Section launched an annual one-day international meeting dedicated to improving cancer outcomes. In 2019, this initiative expanded into a week-long series of multidisciplinary events addressing the full cancer continuum and acknowledging the global scale of the problem. Since its inception, LGCW has grown continuously, and the 2025 edition is expected to feature more presentations, experts, and organizations than ever before.

Core Attributes of the Event

LGCW is distinguished by its diversity of hosts and contributors, representing a wide range of backgrounds with a shared commitment to advancing global cancer control. The event highlights innovative programs and emerging solutions from around the world, offering insight into progress achieved across various contexts. It provides a forum for coherent policymaking by facilitating holistic discussions at both national and international levels. Above all, LGCW serves as a catalyst for positive change benefiting individuals, families, and communities affected by cancer. Participation remains free for both presenting organizations and attendees, reflecting the event’s mission of equitable access and inclusion.

Highlights From Social Media

London Global Cancer Week has an active presence across social media platforms, where participating organizations, speakers, and attendees share updates, insights, and reflections. Here are some of the posts circulating online, offering a glimpse into the growing anticipation for LGCW 2025 and the global movement behind it.

Dario Trapani:

“This morning, I had the privilege of participating in a crucial discussion at London Global Cancer Week LGCW2025 !

It was an honor to join colleagues and experts to explore the critical intersection of value and decision-making in global cancer care.

We dug deep into how we can genuinely use a framework of value to drive better decisions that – including the ESMO MCBS, in turn, shape equitable access to life-saving diagnostics and treatments.

Specifically, we focused on the monumental challenges and opportunities in Low- & Middle-Income Countries LMICs while also examining the global implications of these decisions.

It’s not just about what is clinically effective; it’s about what is humanely effective, what truly delivers quality of life and sustainable systems

Our conversation was a powerful reminder that behind every hashtag#policy and every resource allocation decision is a human life and a family depending on that care

Thank you to the organizers of LGCW for facilitating this vital dialogue. Let’s keep the momentum going to ensure that a commitment to value translates into tangible, equitable access for everyone, everywhere.

Can’t be more grateful to Dr Olubukola Ayodele for considering me, the LGCW is a unique opportunity for the entire community to gather at all levels in a confidential and open format , where I could meet many people marking a difference in global cancer control!”

“Proud to have moderated the powerful discussion on childhood cancer during the London Global Cancer week in conjunction with International Society of Paediatric Oncology – SIOP organized by the International Pediatric Assocation ( the largest global pediatric association) Gevorg Tamamyan, Rejin Kebudi, Nita Radhakrishnan. Addressing challenges and opportunities for the pediatrician caring for a child with cancer especially in LMIC but equally relevant in high Income countries continues to be a focus in improvement of overall cancer outcomes globally.”

Nazik Hammad:

“Today at LGCW, I was privileged to co-chair the AORTIC SIG session on cancer and conflict in Africa. Outstanding presentations. Please watch out for the videos at LGCW website. While the cancer care needs of African conflict-affected populations have been neglected at the global level compared to conflicts outside Africa, today’s session informed us of incredible stories of resilience, innovation in models of care and an overwhelming desire to collaborate at a regional and continental level. Our data shows that the African cancer workforce is eager to learn from each and to work with each other to improve cancer outcomes for IDPs and refugees. Many thanks to all the speakers, to LGCW and to AORTIC secretrait and to the AORTIC president, Dr Cesaltina . AORTIC- Africa Samiratou Ouedraogo / PharmD., MPH, PhD. Listening to the incredible projects taking place in India, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and across Africa has been truly inspiring.

My sincere thanks to Aruni Ghose and Dr Olubukola Ayodele for inviting me and recognising the small part I play in this important work. I’m also thrilled to see my abstract being published soon.”
