Lazar Popovic, Head of Clinic for Medical Oncology at the Oncology Institute of Vojvodina, Full Professor at the University of Novi Sad, shared on LinkedIn:
“When I began working in oncology in 2005, I quickly realized that I did not want to focus solely on clinical practice.
I also wanted to engage in science and clinical research. The following year, in 2006, I published my first paper in the local journal ‘Medicina danas’ (‘Medicine Today’).
Since then, numerous publications have followed in various – often highly regarded – journals.
However, my goal and dream was to participate in research that would change clinical practice, lead to higher cure rates, and be published in The New England Journal of Medicine.
The VOLGA trial – a study whose results will lead to more patients being cured of bladder cancer – was presented yesterday during the ESMO Presidential Symposium and published in The New England Journal of Medicine.
In this way, I have fulfilled one of my major goals and dreams. Thank you Enrique Grande, Thomas Powles and AstraZeneca for great work and wonderful opportunity.”
