Laura Esserman, Principal Investigator at The WISDOM Study, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“We presented the WISDOM trial results this morning at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium. We were thrilled with the incredibly positive reception of the very remarkable results. Dr. Eric Winer, commented, after the talk, that it was the most important result presented at the meeting.
WISDOM successfully stratified risk in the population, and safely was able to direct screening intensity and risk reduction. It shows better results at lower burden and cost.
WISDOM is the beginning of risk-based screening. Not the end. Given the billions of dollars spent annually on screening in the US alone, we owe it to women to work to find ways to improve screening.
Big thanks to Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) for giving us the chance to conduct the wisdom study and awarding us the first pragmatic trial award, to National Cancer Institute (NCI) for funding us to increase the diversity and reach of The WISDOM Study to all populations and to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation for stepping in multiple times when we needed it most to sustain this incredible effort. And to the many people who helped us fund this effort.
We aren’t done yet! There is so much more to do. Let’s all lean in!!”
