Kristina Lindemann, Head of the Gynecological Oncology Center at Oslo University Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“It was a pleasure to contribute with our Oslo cohort to the Gynecologic Cancer InterGroup (GCIG) Collaboration Into Exceptional Responders to PARP Inhibitors (GCIG-CERP), together with Katharina Bischof.
In this study, we analyzed a subset of patients with platinum-sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer (PS-ROC) who demonstrated exceptional responses to maintenance PARP inhibitors.
Key findings included:
- Patients who discontinued PARP inhibitors for reasons other than disease progression did not appear to experience inferior outcomes compared with those who continued treatment.
- The risk of secondary malignancies and myelodysplastic syndrome/acute myeloid leukemia (MDS/AML) was very low.
Functional cure may be possible, and these findings challenge current recommendations for indefinite PARP inhibitor treatment in the recurrent setting.
Thank you to Lucy Haggstrom and Michael Friedlander for their leadership, and congratulations to all colleagues from the Gynecologic Cancer InterGroup (GCIG) who contributed to this important collaborative effort.”
