Khalis Mustafayev: The Biology of Brain Metastases and Emerging Therapeutic Strategies in SCLC

Khalis Mustafayev, Oncology Transplant ID Fellow at MD Anderson Cancer Center, shared on LinkedIn:

“Excited to share that our article, ‘Neurotropism and Therapeutic Targeting of Brain Metastases in Small Cell Lung Cancer,’ is now indexed on PubMed! Proud to be a co-first author on this work published in Cancer Research (Impact Factor 22.6).

As exciting therapeutic advances in small cell lung cancer emerge at ESMO 2026, our review explores the biology of brain metastases and emerging therapeutic strategies, including DLL3- and B7-H3-targeted approaches.

The promising ESMO 2026 results for tarlatamab (Imdelltra), a DLL3-targeting T-cell engager, further highlight the potential of this therapeutic approach, with the DeLLphi-305 trial reporting a 58% reduction in the risk of death when combined with durvalumab compared with durvalumab alone.

Grateful to Dr. Triparna Sen, Dr. Manmeet Ahluwalia, Dr. Fatma Nihan Akkoç Mustafayev, Dr. Elisa Gobbini; Dr. Asrar Alahmadi; Dr. Fred Hirsch; and Logan Spiegelman for their valuable contributions to this work.

Excited to see continued progress in SCLC research and new therapeutic opportunities for patients!”
