Kathleen Schmeler: UT MD Anderson Expands Global Oncology Efforts Through EPICC

Kathleen Schmeler, Associate Vice President of Global Oncology, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Our UT MD Anderson team is pleased to announce the expansion of our global oncology efforts as we join the Elimination Partnership in Cervical Cancer (EPICC) global consortium.

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable diseases we face, and it remains a leading cause of cancer death in under-resourced settings. The EPICC consortium, led by The Cancer Elimination Collaboration (CEC), Sydney School of Public Health, and University of Sydney, brings together key researchers, implementation specialists, and policy experts who work in partnership with Ministries of Health and civil society, particularly across the Indo-Pacific, to advance national cervical cancer elimination strategies.

By aligning UT MD Anderson’s clinical and scientific expertise with EPICC’s world-leading strategies, this collaboration agreement enables us to take a significant step forward in ensuring that evidence-based prevention strategies, screenings and treatments reach the communities that need them most.

We are deeply grateful to work alongside our colleagues Dr. Karen Canfell AC FAHMS Prof Marion Saville AM and the entire EPICC team including Edward ‘Ted’ Trimble and Joanne Manrique as we advance our collective vision. I also want to extend my profound gratitude to Drew Dainer, Acting Consul-General, Australian Consulate-General in Houston, whom we were honored to host at UT MD Anderson for our launch session.

Our Global Oncology team looks forward to the innovation and shared learning this collaboration will foster as we work together to End Cancer.”
