Karen Canfell, Lead of CEC and Professor of Public Health at The Cancer Elimination Collaboration, shared Luke Arnold’s post on LinkedIn, adding:
“It was an incredible honor to meet Timor-Leste President Ramos-Horta during his visit to the University of Sydney’s Sydney Southeast Asia Centre (SSEAC) last Friday!
We are so thrilled that the Australian government has announced a further $2M contribution to the EPICC-Timor Leste program! Thanks so much to Luke Arnold, Krystal Millar and DFAT, and to the other major EPICC donor, the Minderoo Foundation.
This new grant will enable further expansion of the program in Timor-Leste – as it moves towards national scaling and sustainability.
Thanks so much to the Timor-Leste leaders who made this possible – Dr. Zetó (Dr José António Gusmão Guterres), Dr. Andi Adriano Pereira, Dr. Maria Jose, Sra. Madalena F. S. Gomes, Dr. Marilia da Conceicao and all of the Vera Cruz CHC team, and Dr. Merita Monteiro.”
Luke Arnold, Assistant Secretary – Timor-Leste Branch, Office of Southeast Asia at Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, shared:
“Timor-Leste’s success matters to Australia, and vice versa. This was one of the things I discussed over lunch with President Ramos-Horta and the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre (SSEAC) last week.
The President was also thankful for Australia’s additional $2m contribution to eliminating cervical cancer in Timor-Leste through the excellent work of the Elimination Partnership in Cervical Cancer (EPICC).
Side note: wonderful to work on this with my old Acicis Year 2000 mate Dr. Natali Pearson, M. ICOMOS at this event!”
