Julie Fleshman: Historic Moment in Pancreatic Cancer at ASCO26

Julie Fleshman, President and CEO of Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN), shared a post on LinkedIn:

Yesterday was an historic moment in pancreatic cancer history.

The results presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting for daraxonrasib represent the most significant advance we have ever seen in pancreatic cancer. For a disease that has long been marked by limited treatment options and often devastating outcomes, seeing a therapy double overall survival in previously treated metastatic pancreatic cancer patients is both extraordinary and encouraging.

I had the privilege of being in the room when these data were presented and joined colleagues from across the cancer community in a standing ovation – a rare and powerful moment that reflected the significance of what we were witnessing. It was not simply a celebration of a promising new treatment, but of years of scientific persistence, collaboration and the courage of the patients and families who participated in clinical trials to help move the field forward.

We congratulate our valued industry partner, Revolution Medicines, as well as the investigators, clinicians and trial participants who made this achievement possible. While there is still much work ahead and no single breakthrough will solve pancreatic cancer alone, these results offer something our community urgently needs: evidence-based hope and a clear reminder that progress is possible.

At PanCAN, we remain committed to accelerating research, advancing innovative therapies and ensuring that every patient has access to the best possible treatment options. Yesterday’s news brings us one step closer to a future where pancreatic cancer is treated more effectively, giving patients and families more time and more options.”
