Julia Girmenia: 2 Powerful Days at the Breast Cancer Survivorship and Supportive Care Conference

Dr. Muna Al-Khaifi, lead of the Breast Cancer Survivorship Program at Odette Cancer Centre, shared a post by Julia Girmenia, Project Director, Social Impact leader, Partnership and Stakeholder Relations, Program Management, Community Engagement, Event Management, Fundraiser, Strategic Thinker, Problem Solver, Breast Cancer Advocate on LinkedIn, adding:

“Thank you so much for attending the conference! I completely agree with you.

We aimed to cover a wide range of topics from the time of diagnosis through post-surgical recovery, lymphedema prevention and management, psychological well-being, fertility, sexual health, menopause, returning to work, and updates on pain management and prevention, and financial toxicity.

Our goal was to ensure the program was diverse, multidisciplinary, evidence-based, and comprehensive – and I’m so glad to hear that it resonated with you.

And by the way – you all look fantastic in this photo!”

Quoting Julia Girmenia‘s post:

“I spent two powerful days at the Breast Cancer Survivorship and Supportive Care International Conference, where experts from across Canada and beyond shared evidence, tools, and approaches to improve patient care. Hearing patient stories on every main stage reinforced the need for whole-body, compassionate care.

Sessions explored everything from surgical recovery, side-effect management, AI tools, and return-to-work challenges to metastatic care, fear of progression, clinical trials, financial stress, cognitive changes, and the importance of sexual health and menopause.

It was energizing to learn alongside clinicians, researchers, and fellow cancer besties. As a patient, I felt truly seen – especially in conversations about co-creating programs and keeping quality of life at the center of care. Grateful for the community and the hope this space provides.

I am still digesting the learnings and can’t wait to share!”
