“I’m excited to share our new review on financial toxicity in cancer care, alongside my co-authors Fumiko Ladd Chino and Bridgette Thom, recently published in Current Opinion in Oncology.
Financial toxicity is increasingly recognized as a major adverse effect of cancer treatment, but it is sometimes framed primarily as a patient-level problem.
In this review, we highlight how financial burden arises across multiple levels, including insurance design, employment disruption, health system factors, and policy, and discuss opportunities for intervention using a social-ecological framework.
As cancer treatments advance, ensuring that patients can access and afford care must remain central to improving outcomes and advancing health equity.”
