Jennifer S. Buell: Calling for Immediate Action to Expand Access to Promising Cancer Treatments

Jennifer S. Buell, President and CEO of MiNK Therapeutics and Chair of the Executive Council at Agenus, shared Martha Raymond‘s post on LinkedIn, adding:

“Great discussion and thank you to Amalya Sargsyan and the OncoDaily team, and a big thank you to Prof. Jean-Yves Blay, Dr. Julie Gralow and Martha Raymond for a conversation that demands action.

Patients’ diseases will not wait for our timetables.

Countries are showing the resolve to act. Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia has granted conditional approvals that expand treatment options for eligible patients with advanced colorectal cancer. In France, the ANSM has expanded reimbursed compassionate access through its AAC program, supporting eligible patients with colorectal cancer, ovarian cancer and certain soft-tissue sarcomas. These decisions give physicians additional means to help the patients before them.

The same urgent need exists beyond those borders and across diseases. Patients whose standard treatments have failed may not have time to wait for registrational trials to report.

Their need is immediate. Our responsibility is shared.

More countries must now act. Support physicians in exercising informed clinical judgment. Establish responsible pathways to promising treatments. Fund access so that a pathway on paper becomes an option in practice. Continue the trials and strengthen the evidence with equal determination.

The measure of our leadership will be what we make possible for patients, while there is still time.”

Martha Raymond, Founder and CEO of the GI Cancers Alliance and Raymond Foundation, shared on LinkedIn:

“Jean-Yves Blay, Jennifer S. Buell, Julie Gralow I enjoyed our ‘Big Questions’ discussion, and look forward to working together again as we continue to address the issues that shape cancer research, treatment and patient access.

Amalya Sargsyan, OncoDaily thank you for the invitation to participate in this important conversation!”
