“New original case report published on OncoDaily Medical Journal by Gokul Das, Manjusha Nair, Guruprasad C S, and Priyakumari T describes a rare intracranial recurrence of osteosarcoma in a pediatric patient.
This article highlights that osteosarcoma — the most common malignant bone tumor in children — can rarely metastasize to the brain, a situation with very poor prognosis.
Key points from the report:
- A 13-year-old male with high-grade osteosarcoma of the rib initially responded poorly to IAP and underwent surgical resection.
- Two months after completing treatment, he presented with seizures, and imaging revealed a frontal lobe metastatic lesion alongside local recurrence.
- The patient received palliative care and radiotherapy but unfortunately succumbed to the disease three months later.
Brain metastases in osteosarcoma are extremely rare, but clinicians should consider this possibility in patients with new neurological symptoms.”
