“On 19 May 2026, Elisabete Weiderpass, Director of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), met with Dr Cesaltina Lorenzoni, President of the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC- Africa). This meeting marked an evolution in the relationship between the two institutions, with the leaders signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IARC and AORTIC.
This partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing cancer prevention, research, and equitable care across Africa through stronger collaboration, mobilizing knowledge, and increasing local capacity.
