“Within the framework of university cooperation and celebrating the scientific and academic effort that Egyptian universities abound in scientific cadres, I was honored yesterday to accept the invitation to attend the doctoral thesis discussion at the Department of Oncology – Faculty of Medicine, Tanta University, which dealt with the use of chemotherapy in the treatment of advanced hormone-positive breast tumors, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Samar Galal Younis and the internal examiner Prof. Fatima Zakaria.
On the sidelines of the discussion, I was pleased and honored to meet Prof. Dr. Mohamed Hantira, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine – Tanta University, and Prof. Dr. Nihal Al-Mashhad, where a fruitful and important discussion took place on the prospects of developing scientific research in the field of oncology, and the importance of building bridges of cooperation between Tanta University and Ain Shams University.
Cooperation between Egyptian universities and research centers is no longer just an exchange of experiences or participation in scientific events, but has become a real necessity to raise the level of scientific research, through the integration of expertise and capabilities, the exchange of research data and experiences, and the design of multi-center studies capable of producing scientific evidence that reflects the reality and needs of patients in Egypt.
In this context, cooperation with the Presidential Initiative for Women’s Health, as a link between academic research, clinical practice and national health programmes was also discussed.
The Presidential Initiative for Women’s Health is not only a successful model for early detection and improved pathways for breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, but it also provides an important base for scientific research and the study of disease patterns, risk factors, early diagnosis methods, quality of care, and real-life treatment outcomes.
Linking these expertise and capabilities with Egyptian universities can open up broad horizons for multi-center research, training young researchers, building more robust research databases, and transforming research outcomes into health policies and practices that respond to the needs of Egyptian society.
I believe that integration between academic institutions and national health initiatives is one of the most important keys to building a sustainable system for scientific research in Egypt, a system that does not only publish research, but seeks to have a tangible impact on improving diagnosis and treatment, raising the quality of life of patients, and developing the cancer control system in Egypt.
